P30
for Mycoplasma pneumoniae
P30 is a membrane-bound protein that orients with the N terminus in the cytoplasm and the C terminus exposed on the cell surface, thus can be exploited for the immunodetection of M. pneumoniae-infected human sera. It has been described in the bibliography that the adhesion protein P30 is together with P1, a potent immunogen that results in high titers of specific antibodies in the serum of patients with acute M. pneumoniae infection. The C-terminal region of P30 is dominated by proline-rich repeating motifs similar to those found near the C terminus of P1. Both the area near the C-terminus of P1 and P30 seem crucial for adhesion to various cell types.
